The first American to be charged with treason since World War II was back in the news Sunday, both for a new videotape he released and for reports of his capture that turned out to be false. In the videotape, al-Qaeda operative Adam Gadahn, an American convert to Islam, praised the Fort Hood jihad murderer and called upon Muslims to carry out jihad attacks in the United States. The reports that Gadahn had been captured caused widespread excitement until the arrestee turned out to be a different American convert to Islam, Abu Yahya Mujahdeen Al-Adam, who like Gadahn is an al-Qaeda leader. The videotape and the arrest of the other American-born Muslim demonstrate yet again the cognitive dissonance that prevails at the highest levels regarding the nature of the jihad threat. In the videotape, Gadahn called Nidal Hasan, who murdered thirteen people in the name of jihad and Islam at Fort Hood in November 2009, "Brother Nidal" and held him up as "the ideal role-model for every repentant Muslim in the armies of the unbelievers and apostate regimes." And not just military personnel: Gadahn added that "Nidal Hasan is a pioneer, a trailblazer and a role-model who has opened a door, lit a path and shown the way forward for every Muslim who finds himself among the unbelievers."

Roberts: Scene At State Of Union 'Very Troubling'!

President Obama chided the court for its campaign finance decision during the January address, with six of the court's nine justices seated before him in their black robe!
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts said Tuesday the scene at President Barack Obama's first State of the Union address was "very troubling" and that the annual speech to Congress has "degenerated into a political pep rally."
Responding to a University of Alabama law student's question about the Senate's method of confirming justices, Roberts said senators improperly try to make political points by asking questions they know nominees can't answer because of judicial ethics rules.
"I think the process is broken down," he said.
Obama chided the court for its campaign finance decision during the January address, with six of the court's nine justices seated before him in their black robes.
Roberts said he wonders whether justices should attend the address."To the extent the State of the Union has degenerated into a political pep rally, I'm not sure why we're there," said Roberts, a Republican nominee who joined the court in 2005

*1 in 6 Americans infected with herpes

By JoAnne Allen
WASHINGTON, March 9 (Reuters) - About 16 percent of Americans between the ages of 14 and 49 are infected with genital herpes, making it one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases, U.S. health officials said on Tuesday.
Black women had the highest rate of infection at 48 percent and women were nearly twice likely as men to be infected, according to an analysis by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
About 21 percent of women were infected with genital herpes, compared to only 11.5 percent of men, while 39 percent of blacks were infected compared to about 12 percent for whites, the CDC said.
There is no cure for genital herpes, or herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), which can cause recurrent and painful genital sores and also increases the likelihood of acquiring and transmitting the AIDS virus. It is related to herpes simplex virus 1, or oral herpes, which causes cold sores.
Several drugs are available to treat herpes symptoms and outbreaks, including acyclovir, which is available generically or under the Zovirax brand name, and valacyclovir, known generically as Valtrex -- both made by GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK.L). Ganciclovir, sold as Zirgan, is made by privately-held Sirion Therapeutics, Inc.
The CDC estimates that more than 80 percent of people with genital herpes do not know they are infected.

Israelis and Palestinians face a "moment of real opportunity" to make peace after agreeing to resume American-brokered talks, U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden said Tuesday as he launched the highest-level visit by an Obama administration official to Israel.
The indirect talks break a 14-month deadlock and mark President Barack Obama's first substantive diplomatic achievement in the region.
"I think we are at a moment of real opportunity, and I think that the interests of the Israeli and Palestinian people, if everybody stops and takes a deep breath, are actually more in line than they are opposites," Biden said ahead of a meeting with Israel's president, Shimon Peres.
Biden said he hoped the beginning of indirect talks would be "a vehicle by which we can begin to allay that layer of mistrust that has built up in the last several years."

Admits in Calgary speech that family used Canadian system in '60s!

Sarah Palin's weekend admission that her family once travelled to Canada to receive treatment under the public health-care system she's so often demonized prompted skepticism and ridicule Monday among her critics in the U.S.
"My first five years of life, we spent in Skagway, Alaska, right there by Whitehorse," the former Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate said Saturday night during a speech in Calgary.
"Believe it or not — this was in the '60s — we used to hustle on over the border for health care that we would receive in Whitehorse. I remember my brother, he burned his ankle in some little kid accident thing, and my parents had to put him on a train and rush him over to Whitehorse, and I think, isn't that kind of ironic now, zooming over the border, getting health care from Canada."
Always a popular whipping girl on liberal blogs and news sites, Palin was swiftly derided for the comments Monday as the news reverberated through and beyond the U.S. capital.

Nigerian Muslims slaughter 500 Christians
Submitted by sefihome on Tue, 03/09/2010 - 04:41.On early Sunday morning Muslim herders attacked Christian villagers in Nigeria with machetes.
500 Christians were slaughtered.
Villagers in central Nigeria buried dozens of bodies, including those of women and children, in a mass grave on Monday after attacks in which several hundred people were feared to have been killed. (Reuters)Some of the bodies had been charred. Some had slash marks across their faces. One young victim was found to be scalped and few others were found with cut off hands and legs.
The Muslim hackers shouted “Allah Akhbar” (God is Great) before breaking into homes and hacking the Christians to death.
The AFP reported:UN chief Ban Ki-moon and Washington led calls for restraint on Monday after the slaughter of more than 500 Christians in Nigeria, as survivors told how the killers chopped down their victims.
Funerals took place for victims of the three-hour orgy of violence on Sunday in three Christian villages close to the northern city of Jos, blamed on members of the mainly Muslim Fulani ethnic group.
While troops were deployed to the villages to prevent new attacks, security forces detained 95 suspects but faced bitter criticism over how the killers were able to go on the rampage at a time when a curfew was meant to be in force.
Media reported that Muslim residents of the villages in Plateau state had been warned by phone text message, two days prior to the attack, so they could make good their escape before the exit points were sealed off.

there are around 10,000 women currently working as prostitutes in Dubai
Submitted by sefihome on Mon, 03/08/2010 - 18:28.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates—For over a decade, authorities turned a blind eye to the Cyclone Club—which was described by regulars as a Disneyland for men—despite the country’s apparent adherence to austere Islamic legal codes.
Indeed, in its heyday entrance tickets to one of the biggest brothels in Dubai were given an official stamp from the local Department of Tourism.
Today however, the building which once housed the notorious Cyclone Club has been gutted and replaced by a family-friendly restaurant—in a sign of a growing crackdown by Dubai authorities on prostitution and human trafficking.
In January, the Central Criminal Court in the capital of Abu Dhabi issued a landmark ruling whereby seven men were given life sentences for human trafficking crimes and six others were given 10-year sentences.
In addition, Dubai courts in February, tried two human trafficking cases, and an eight-man people-smuggling ring was busted in the northern emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
“We have noticed a lot more awareness and big changes in understanding about trafficking from the police and courts,” said Sarah Shuhail, who runs a shelter for women who have escaped forced prostitution, in comments to local media.
Shuhail’s organization, Ewaa Shelters for Women and Children, has been open for little more than a year, and is already planning on opening two new shelters in the emirates of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.
In 2009, the U.S. State Department downgraded the United Arab Emirates to Tier 2, on its list of countries cited for their records on trafficking.

The Telegraph: The end of the road for Barack Obama?
Submitted by sefihome on Mon, 03/08/2010 - 13:12.Barack Obama seems unable to face up to America's problems, writes Simon Heffer in New York.
It is a universal political truth that administrations do not begin to fragment when things are going well: it only happens when they go badly, and those who think they know better begin to attack those who manifestly do not. The descent of Barack Obama's regime, characterised now by factionalism in the Democratic Party and talk of his being set to emulate Jimmy Carter as a one-term president, has been swift and precipitate. It was just 16 months ago that weeping men and women celebrated his victory over John McCain in the American presidential election. If they weep now, a year and six weeks into his rule, it is for different reasons.

Rescue workers and residents search for survivors in the rubble of a police building hit by a suicide bomb blast in Lahore. (Mohsin Raza/Reuters)A suicide car bomber Monday struck a building where police interrogate high-value suspects in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore, killing at least 12 people and wounding 61 more, including women taking children to school, officials say.
The attack broke what had been a relative lull in violence in Pakistan, where militant groups revile the government for its alliance with the U.S.
It also showed that insurgents retain the ability to strike the country's heartland, far from the Afghan border regions where al-Qaeda and the Taliban have long thrived, despite army offensives aimed at wiping them out.
No group immediately claimed responsibility, but suspicion fell on the Pakistani Taliban and allied militant groups. Those groups are believed responsible for a wave of attacks that killed more than 600 people starting in October, including several in major Pakistani cities.
More recent attacks have been smaller and confined to remote northwest regions near Afghanistan.

Women walk past the rubble of a house destroyed by a blast in the mixed neighbourhood of Kirayaat, where police say one person died. (Hadi Mizban/Associated Press)Voters in Iraq were casting ballots in parliamentary elections Sunday despite a series of deadly insurgent attacks that began shortly after polls opened.
At least 26 people have died in mortar, grenade and car bomb attacks across the country. The victims include at least 14 people who were killed in attacks in the capital, Baghdad.
Dozens of firefighters and civil defence workers were trying to reach victims of one of the attacks in the strongly Shia neighbourhood of Shaab in Baghdad's north end, where extremists blew up a building, killing at least seven people.
"We all heard clearly a little girl crying in the ruins," said John Simpson, reporting from the scene for BBC. "Stories of what happened vary greatly, but it seems most likely that Sunni extremists put bombs here, perhaps car bombs, as part of the campaign against the election."

A car bomb exploded near a bus for pilgrims in the Shia holy city of Najaf on Saturday, killing at least three people, including two Iranians, on the eve of key national elections, officials said.
Blasts in other Iraqi cities have killed dozens this week, underscoring warnings that insurgents would attempt to disrupt the vote with violence. An al-Qaeda front group issued a statement on Friday telling people not to leave their homes on election day.
Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims were waiting to board the bus after visiting Iraq's Imam Ali shrine, a witness said.
"I was shocked by the scene, pools of blood and people lying on the ground soaked with their own blood," said Ahmed Fakhir, 21, an Iraqi translator who was with the Iranian pilgrims.
